A superb, colourful, antique, wedding furisode kimono, with phoenix and gosho guruma (imperial carriage). A Taisho kimono or very early Showa kimono, so around 100 years old. It has gosho guruma (Imperial carriages), large fans; one with a handsome phoenix, bamboo, pines and plum blossom. It has 5 mon (crests) and touches of gold lacquer outlining on the design. The kimono is pure Silk, with hand applied textile art and entirely hand sewn. There are nice touches of embroidery in the design details and it has 5 mon (crests – its crests are bamboo leaves and flowers). The kimono is pure Silk, with hand applied textile art and entirely hand sewn. The design continues on the tomohakkake (inner lining), which is only seen on very, very expensive, high quality kimonos. The inside is not seen when the kimono is on, so it is a costly extravagance to have textile art designed and hand applied on the inside.

Type:
A wedding furisode kimono, for a Japanese bride. Furisode means ‘swinging sleeves'. They have extra deep sleeves, much deeper than standard kimonos, and are worn on special occasions. This one is especially formal, because it has mon (Japanese crests).
Silk

Condition: 
Extremely good – some minor marks and a hint of yellowing on the upper lining. The most noticeable mark is at the blue wheel (see photo below). In extremely good condition for its age, strong and wearable and magnificent as a display piece. - see photos below, click each one to see an enlargement.

Sizing:
Japanese clothing is usually of adjustable fit, being mostly wrap-over or tie-to-fit items, so most garments fit a range of sizes. Because of this (and only really knowing my own size anyway) I can't really advise anyone on the fit. Please judge fit from the measurements given.Measure from centre back of neck, along shoulder and down the arm to the wrist, then double that and compare it with the sleeve end measurement to judge sleeve length. If shown modelled, the woman in the photos is 125 cm from wrist to wrist.
